Just thinking out loud tbh.

The IR return will actually be a "Bi-Directional Data Channel" if the plan comes together as anticipated. This would allow it to be used for IR or RS232 at lowish rates (might get as high as 9600). That should make it possible to use a serial mouse but not a keyboard.

Once I have the datapath up and working I could look at the Keyboard/PS2 Mouse protocol to see if I can program a PIC to do that task. It would depent largely on the highest data rate that I could achieve.

Will know more later.

What about an IR keyboard with mouse pad using the IR repeater function?

About £20-£30 quid is about as far as I would persue it ;)

I assume the V part of the KVM extender is where the cost is, think I'll go look at the data that K and M use.

Keith, can you multiplex a kbd and mouse signal in with the IR please ;))

Belkin do make a KVM extender which can use cat5 up to 150m the trouble is its about £200, how far do you need to go?

Is there a market for kbd+mouse over cat5 then?

I would like to use an rf keyboard and mouse for tv-pc control, but the distance for the RF is too large to get a signal back to node0.

Is there anything available off the shelf, or would it be a candidate for a UKHA project?

Personally I didn't have too much luck with a combined Video/TV card and used a VGA-2-PAL  card from Maplin's which does the trick as well.

Looking at the reply from Paul, I could maybe provide the mp3 interface via the web, which then leads the door open to combining it with HomeSeer control from any TV inexpensively. (as long as the USB remote control works as it states)

I Get the feeling this is a really stupid Q.... but - i assume you'd use a
gfx card w/ TV out - then distribute it as normal - on a specific channel.
(Restricting you to 1 output for the entire house.. // or various TV outs on
different channels..)..

So whats the normal/integrated/easy way of doing that?

<cringes as he clicks send on the really stupid post....>

Matthew.
