A quick page to show if your ISP has a transparent cache in place.
The page address is
http://privacy.net/anonymizer
This is a link to a script on anonymiser
(www.anonymiser.com/why.shtml) that tells you all the information that
people get from you when you request a web page. It is quite eye opening.
Interestingly though take a look at the returned content starting
All information sent by your web browser when
requesting this web page:
If at the end of this section you have an X-Forwarded
header then your ISP has implemented a transparent cache & you need to
use these clever clients.
eg For my current connection, (see below - I have used a
Freeserve dynamic dialup ip) you will notice that the server thinks I am
195.92.168.181 but in fact that resolves to a cache server at Freeserve -
in fact the ip of my ISDN router is 62.137.169.6 and the address of this
machine on an internal ethernet network is 10.1.2.23
TraceRoute to 195.92.168.181 [webcachebp2a.cache.pol.co.uk]
