Yup ... pretty dissapointing from a company like Sony ... of course given
that the current incarnations of the PCG series all share the same case
then
I'd expect this not to be the case with the current models but as the
original PCG series (which is what I have) was a case design that wasn't
used again then I can kinda see why this is.

Still trying to find the box for the VAIO in the loft to see...

...of course, if it does have that statement then I should be laughing.

I don't see any reason to get wound up ... it's frustrating that a
perfectly
good laptop is rendered tethered by lack of spares but I don't use it that
much as a laptop - mostly as a transportable. The mem expansion for this
unit is horrifically expensive too so it is a nice touch but has only
materialised because of my friend. Sony certainly didn't offer anything
like
that to me when I was on their service lines! The only impact for me
(effectively) is that I won't be able to use the laptop for downloading
pics
from my digital camera when I'm out and that's probably about it.

Obviously I have asked my friend to order me a higher capacity battery
anyway but I'm still determined to get to the bottom of this three month
limitation of warranty.
