Other than the fact that you can buy them off the shelf, is there any
reason
why back boxes have to be these sizes. After all they are only a bit of
aluminium or tin or similar and it couldn't be that expensive to get an
engineering shop to make a few with a custom size. For example how about
one
that was a 2+1 gang. That way you could have the x10 socket on the 2G bit
and another socket next to it in the 1G bit. Also it would be possible to
make a 'tall' 1G box for a DIN module that still had the screw holes in the
correct place for a 1G blanking plate.
