Definitely a step in the right direction.

Shame it converts a double socket to single. I do not have anywhere
near enough sockets in my house without losing all my double ones.

Looking at the pictures of the unit, it does not seem it would be
that hard to have the X10 part behind the switch making essentially a
single socket single gang version. This would also allow development
of a 2 gang 2 socket version by doubling up the switch and
electronics. Not sure how this would affect back box depth though,
but I would be happier having to replace all my back boxes with
deeper ones than losing all my double sockets but if it could fit
into a "standard" back box it would be perfect.

The other niggle I see with them is that the address control is at
the rear of the unit so has to be removed (with power off to be safe)
to change the address. Would have been better if there was a panel at
the front which "clipped" on to access the address dials.

If there was a 2 gang 2 socket version, I would definitely replace
every socket in my house ASAP!

Mark.
