Thanks for that Keith. Useful to know the why :)

Wonder if I could varnish my LD10s coils... probably not something I
want to consider at the moment though :) Shame X10 never thought to
apply this technique.

The consumer units housing the LD10s are in an old airing cupboard on
the landing that was rendered empty when I got a combination boiler
so became my node zero. Thanks for the soundproofing suggestion, I
will look into soundproofing this cupboard since I guess when I have
a PC in there and the LD10s buzzing, it is going to emit quite a lot
of noise.

I guess I can try building a cupboard around the main consumer unit
to kill that noise, particularly since a recently added MCB does not
fit in the original housing meaning the face plate has to be left off
so it is not particularly aesthetically pleasing. Replacing the main
consumer unit is somewhere on my list of things to do but will
probably happen when I get my garage built since I will need some way
of powering the garage.

I had half expected the buzz from the LD10s but the buzz at the main
fuse was quite unexpected hence my concern.

By fibreglass do you refer to standard glass fibre insulation as used
in the attic?

Mark.
