When tightly compacted it wont burn at all.

Just dont use Cotton Wool. :-)

The primary purpose of firestopping is to block the flow of air, smoke and
flames. There is no way it will get through that blockage in a hurry. By
the
time it does you wouldnt be in the house anyway.

Paint burns quite well but a painted door holds back fire longer than a
plain wood door because the paint has to burn before it can get to the
wood.
