Up t 60gig at the moment (I have 40Gb), empeg has 4V line outs :)
empeg d es not have internal amplification, it's a proper head unit.
Also has 1V line outs for home hifi and 1V line in for Aux (if you want
to connect another HU). My setup is a Pioneer MEH-P9000R (slave HU),
6CD Changer (never use any more), DAB radio receiver and empeg (master
HU t take advantage of fantastic EQ in the whole system).
Amplification is serious (1KW+), driving 8 spkrs, inc 2* 12" subs
running free air and finally an AudioControl 4XS active crossover. The
result is wonderfully musical bass and a very high level of competence
across the frequency range.

Your point re: software is a good one but, to be honest, is very
difficult to d on a CD based unit. How on earth do you search the
through 160 tracks (650/4) for ID3 tags on a CD without it taking
forever and a day? Hardly instant if you want to, say, play all songs
with love in the title! Bad example but you take my point. I guess you
could pre index the tags and write the index t the CD, but then it's
non standard and can get messy. Hmmmm... hard drive is the better
s lution. Especially if it means you can d away with CD's altogether -
now that's what I call a player ;) Ohh and what happens when MP3 Pro
arrives, you're knackered and will have t fork out again t get another
head unit if you want support for the new format. With empeg it's a
free software upgrade.

M

P.S. 72Gb is roughly 18,000 tracks!! At 10 tracks and =A310 per CD
that's =A318k on music CD's alone. If you can afford t spend that much
on music then you really should've bought the empeg!!
