Do you really mean 4 way? Or do you actually mean 8 pin? (2 parallel
rows of 4 sockets)

Cutting down larger sockets is easy with a hacksaw...
Alternatively single strip turned-pin wirewrapping sockets are a good
alternative - simply solder required length and snip the long legs
off with sidecutters.
