Got my Linksys Access Point and PCMCIA card all setup at home last night.  Here are my initial impressions...

Access Point - Nice unit, can be setup via Ethernet or USB (you need to use USB to change it's default IP address though).  Dual removable aerials.

PCMCIA Card - What can I say, pretty ugly aerial sticking out.

Range - Disappointing!!  I can JUST get coverage at the extremes of my house, but the AP is placed pretty centrally upstairs so I though I would have got good coverage everywhere.  Any thoughts of being able to pickup my email at the in-laws across the field have now gone!  In fairness it does appear that the PCMCIA card is the problem rather than the AP.  I have read a lot of comments on www.practicallynetworked.com that suggest the LinkSys AP couple with a different PCMCIA card will give much better range.

I tried with the Laptop, the iPAQ and the Epod (can anyone tell me how to see network from the iPAQ??)   Of the three I think the Epod was the most impressive.  Running Terminal Services I browsed the BBC News site for a good hour and it was an excellent experience.  The combination of wireless and TS turn the Epod into a near perfect browsing device.

Pics and review in the future.

M.
