NEW YORK, Aug. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- ITT Industries, Network Systems & Services (NYSE: ITT) announced today the launch of the DiLAN solution -- the first Domestic Integrated Local Area Network that supports telephony, data, audio/video and security capabilities over a single cabling infrastructure. DiLAN (pronounced "Dylan") will enable homeowners to use their home technologies, from the security system to the entertainment center to the laser printer, without usage and location constraints -- creating a home that grows and evolves with a family's ever-changing needs. "The DiLAN solution is an extremely useful and practical home networking tool," said Jonathan Chauvin-Blitt, President, ITT Industries Network Systems & Services - Americas. "It is allowing families to change and adapt their home entertainment, computer and security systems so that a room's use will no longer be determined by the type of outlet and connectivity that is already in place. And, because DiLAN enables a user to access fixed equipment from any point in the house, families will be able to get more use from a single printer, DVD player or stereo system."

DiLAN's capabilities are supported by CAT 5 or 5e cabling installed throughout the house and linked between a centrally located control cabinet and numerous socket outlets in each room. In addition, because the system uses only a single copper cabling infrastructure and standard RJ45 outlets, the DiLAN solution is as easy and economical to install in a new home as the plumbing and electrical systems. Previously launched in Europe, DiLAN has already been installed in approximately 4,000 homes. The DiLAN solution will allow property developers and architects to design and build homes capable of supporting future home automation technologies. It will add value to properties by incorporating a more robust home cabling system that will be able to withstand the increasing demands families place on their home technology systems. "Families have been anticipating smart home and home networkingcapabilities for years, and now there is a system that can support current and future technologies," Chauvin-Blitt said. "Systems like DiLAN will become as common in a home as the PC. Families and developers who install these systems today will be able to efficiently and easily adopt future home automation
technologies."
