It should only do one thrust its the same as the solenoid in a door chime and these stay in ok if you hold the button. Watch the buttons you use are capable of switching the current or they will burn out quickly.

After Alancc's tip, CPC have some pull/push solenoids available. They've faxed me over a copy of the page in their catalogue, and the last one, the SM2 series (12v, pull/thrust) has tapped holes for attaching. I'm concerned tho that if I have a button, it will do repeated thrust attempts - when only 1 will do !!!

Is there anyway to interupt the 12v signal from the button to the solenoid so it only sends the voltage breifly ?

So - next step - where's the cheapest 12v dc transformer I can get ? I will need to split the voltage to two buttons, so both the left and right doors can be opeed. And maybe the front mirror too

Now Maplins have some nice looking buttons I need to check out...
