The recovery CD on its own was behaving quite weird by the way ... it was
seperating the 12Gb drive into a 9Gb main partition, a 128Mb partition for
the BIOS to use for "Hibernate" and then a 3Gb unused partition.

However when the software and OS was installed back into the main partition
all of the files seemed to be given their original pointers and file
allocation addresses as they would have had on the original 4.3Gb drive.

A nice mess (and I know the later recovery CDs are not like that - I guess
this was just while Sony "practised" at getting it right with the
first VAIO
laptops!) but it now seems to be working OK!
