I just got my new HA server up too so at last
my
byterunnner multiport serial card is in use. The four ports on the
card
use only 1 IRQ. Along with the 2 ports on the motherboard that gives
6 as
well.
Got my donated UPS up and running on the
server too
(many thanks to James!). Seems to be 1994 vintage but a test at
weekend
gave 52 mins before running out of battery power.

PC-Remote
Uncanny!
Please also tell them that I'd STILL
prefer
a serial device if at all possible - I usually disable the LPT port on
all
my PC's in the BIOS, and I usualy do that as soon as I get them, (i.e.
before I install an OS on them...)
The very same applies to my
HA
machine, which now has a nice stable build of W2K Pro on it, with NO
parallel port device enabled in it... This machine is packed to the
gunnells with add-in cards, and system resources (IRQ's, DMA channels,
I/O
addresses etc. etc.) are at a premium. I'd be *really* reluctant to
monkey
around with that machine by re-enabling the parallel port, and opening
myself up for whatever chaos the Plug & Pray system might then try
to
wreak on this machine!
Half the battle in getting it to the stable
state it is (seems to be) in at the moment, was to get it working with
SIX
serial ports, - of which I still have one
spare....
Cheers.
