Phil

I am not 100% sure about this but I think they have to have very good
reason
to withold a 'neutral' (ie Phil worked here for x years as chief donkey
shagger and performed well;) reference. Most large organisations won't give
you much more than this anyway as they are afraid of becoming liable if you
turn out to be the BOFH;)

Your family solicitor will no doubt be able to advise you but I would also
think about contacting a specialist.

If you have a letter which reads as per your quote then tell them to cough
up or shut up.

Any large reputable firm will have a HR department which won't let them do
this kind of crap, I assume that this is a smaller operation so threaten
them with legal action...paying your solicitor to write them a letter often
works and should scare them.

Good Luck

Mick
