Re: Advice: Planning for HA

In essence the starting point should be to fit as much cat 5 cabling as
possible to the areas which will be used. I can guarantee if you put 4 runs
in, youwill use them and want more.

I recommend putting 6 or 7 runs in to each location and terminating at a
positon which you can fit a patch panel. If you wire up say 4 runs and
leave
2 unwired for future, it is worth doing, to save adding in additional
wiring
later. The only addition to this would be to route the alarm wiring as
required in addition. The cat 5 can be used for all audio and video
distribuition, phone extensions, networks, 1wire networks (humidity sensor,
temp sensors etc). For cost and conveniance it is advisable to use x10 for
controlling lights and appliances. I am not familiar with the curtain
controller wiring, but I'm sure others can advise. It is feasible to run
aerial cable (ct100) all over the place, but with the use of KAt 5 and
other
components including the IR extender noted on previous messages, it can all
be sent via cat 5, whilst maintaining quality and control.

Probably foremost in the security systems is the Comfort system which
enables x10,ir,phone and web control.

I guarantee, once you start, you will become addicted. It is fun :-)
