RE: OT: not HA but definite gadget

Title: RE: [ukha_d] OT: not HA but definite gadget
You definitely DON'T want one of these. I had one (please don't ask why) and it makes all the water taste of plastic - The Russell Hobbs Kettle Helpline said that, yes, this was a known issue but would reduce after the first few boilings - two weeks later and a probable hefty electricity expenditure - I should have opened a steam sauna - there was little improvement so another call to RHKH and I was t ld to add bicarbonate of soda to each boiling - it might take a while to go. A week later and the kettle arrived back at Currys who said I had to return within 7 or 14 days - try boiling some water I offered, we duly did & 'disgusting' was the salespersons expert opinion on the taste - I left with a Philips Chrome thing that goes 'ping' and I am delighted. (The 'ping' is my first ever liked HA feature if I recall). Sad :(

Actually I was tempted by an electronic kettle with preset heats and a timer - you can select  'coffee' for example and it heats to just below boiling - apparently boiling is too hot for instant. I envisaged HV setting the kettle and making the perfect Costa Rican experience or perhaps a Jelly- & then I remembered I haven't even got around to putting a light switch on the wires that poke out of my bedroom wall and the tv and audio is 'a load of crap that doesn't work' except for me - the user interface obviously needs making a little more 'foolproof' methinks.

Even I couldn't have defended the 'super dooper' kettle with a straight face - so I settled for the 'ping'
