Nirvis' own software was quite good at this. It will sequentially load up
each CD in the player and make a note of it's Disc ID and batch it up in a
big list. It would then dial up CDDB and download the CD details in one
go.

If you're into programming, you can use the .ocx their software uses to
control the boxes yourself. It's pretty much all event driven with basic
strings coming back with the status of the player etc. For example, it
will
generate an event when a track has 30 seconds remaining so you can prepare
your software to play the next one.

I've just bought the Sony 400CD changer, and did a lot of digging around
for
some sort of database tool that would link into the unit, as I didn't want
to
have 400 CD inserts to flick through for that favourite Michael Bolton
song.

After trawling through loads of sites, it seems the S-link E is the only
thing
for the job, but like you, I don't really need any of the other
functionality.
It does get very good reviews though, but I've not been able to find a UK
supplier.

Pete

PS I was joking about Michael Bolton.

Hi

This box of tricks here (https://www.nirvis.com/orderform.htm)
goves you
access from , say , your pc to the slink port on sony cd players - anyone
know of a cheaper one you can buy ?

$250 seems damn expensive - especially as this product does far too much
for
it's own good !
