I think all your point are valid, so I will explain why I purchased the
PVR, having no TV out I first saw as a disadvantage, however as it has
not got the VGA functionality it makes sense, instead you can use a vga
card with TV out maube even a double head one.
secondly, I have a portable MP3,VCD,CD player for the car, although on
my server I keep divx files I still require VCDs for the car, my
reasoning being I will record as VCD and then convert to divx which may
even give me slightly better quality than on the fly. If/when I upgrade
my processor on the PC I can still record using divx and software I have
not lost that function. it comes with a remote control, it also
incorporates radio, as it also allows you to mp3 record audio, this may
become a valuble asset.

well thats my reasoning, I still have to test the damn thing, as I move
to Sweden in 4 weeks I am rather busy (also why I cant join you guys for
the meet up)

Paul

Des and I are just talking about this card! It;s the one WITHOUT the TV
out
yes?

Would be fine for server though as all it's doing is capture. The more
I
think about it though I recon software codec is the way to go.

Disadvantages - Need very fast CPU

Advantages - smaller files (easier streaming over LAN)
better quality
able to take advantage of new emerging codecs
quickly
and cheaply
