As I recall there are three potential problems with shielded
1) if you forget to connect the shield to ground it works like a big
antenna
2) if you connect the shield the capacitance increases which effects signal
propagation. I am not sure on this second point perhaps Nigel could
clarify.
3) if you connect the shield at both ends you can end up with a ground loop
