Thanks all for the help.

I have now got the thing working. I substituted the new number into the old
Dial Up Network settings and this works. It would seem that my PC doesn't
like two settings with similar name / parameters......

The mysteries of windows.

Are you trying to connect at 128K ? This is not supported on FS unlimited.
