I also have the 'green' US version and only charge it when forced to. My
backlight is set to come on when the light is 50%

My "original" green US Pronto has a light sensor but to be honest
I have
it
set to come on every time too.  I only charge the unit once the battery
low
warning shows.
I get at least 2 months between charges.
