Robert,
The basic scenario is my main PC has 2 NICs, 1 connected to the CAble
Modem(IP address dynamically allocated via DHCP from the cable co) and the
other to a 100MB switch for the Home LAN (with a static IP address). On
this main PC I have installed a rather neat piece of proxy software called
AnalogX proxy (www.analogx.com). Not only does it work, but its also free
!!. The other machines on the Home LAn are configured to point at the IP
address of the NIC on the main PC connected to the Home LAN. The proxy uses
non standard TCP/IP ports but other than that it's a doddle. I don't know
if
this answers your question as I don't access the com port on the 2nd PC ?

I'm sure someone with a similar setup will come to your aid on this one as
I
can't help I'm afraid.
