Mark

I have never heard of a PCI GSM card for a desktop....PCMCIA cards for
laptops
yes

Probably your best bet is to get an old handset...ideally a prepay handset
(like
on Orange where your vouchers don't expire, so that you don't ever have to
top
it up if you are not spending any money, though as you can tell from my
e-mail
address, I'm biased!) and a data cable between the handset and a standard
serial
port.... ideal for this would be something like the Orange Nokia 5.1 with a
data
cable into a serial port and use Nokia Cellular data suite (or similar)
which
would give you access to the SMS functionality of the phone...if you let me
know
what phone you end up with I MIGHT be able to get the pin-outs for it so
you
can
construct your own cable....

If I can help in any other way, drop me an email!

Regards
James

Subject: GSM card for _desktop_ PC

Hiya,

I'd like to be able to send (and maybe receive?) SMS messages to my home
PC...

What I want is something I could already acheive with:

- Laptop
- PCMCIA modem with GSM kit
- Mobile Phone handset

What I want is a single PCI card, so I can use a desktop PC.

In an ideal world, this PC card would have a SIM socket on-board and act as
the
handset.
Failing that, it would act as a modem, but with a GSM connector for, say, a
Nokia 2110 handset (ie cheap, nasty, can be stuck in behind the PC.)

I could then get a cheapo SIM-only deal on a mobile phone contract, and lo,
a PC
which I could send messages to FOC with the various email->SMS services
out
there...

M.
