What display? I have the free blue and yellow one that BT do as a
promotion, it always comes up before the first ring when I've checked. I
also have Binatone DECT phones which seem to respond more slowly, but I've
not checked in detail.

Maybe some displays, phones or modems wait for a first ring before
displaying the CLID, particularly ones that are switchable between BT and
US standards? Just an idea...

As a possibly related thing, if I set Comfort to 0 or 1 rings, I don't get
CLID on the BT box, presumably not on the DECT phones either. Again, not
very scientifically tested, but I've currently got it set to 2 or 3 rings
in day/night modes, and it passes CLID and a single ring (so I know someone
is calling) before the voicemail picks up
