I've just re-read what I've typed and it's actually not all true.. If you
got Comfort to dial up (and you knew it was happening) you could use
DynDns!

Sorry if I misled anyone - it is Friday!

Andy

Andrew,

as other have said you can't just make up you own ip address unless you're

using an internat network that does not connect to the Internet. However,

all is not lost... take a trip in your web browser to www.dyndns.com .
They will allow you to set up a url that will point to your current ip
address assigned by your isp. This is only of any use if you have a
permanent connection to the Internet via cable (possibly ADSL).

Cable operators tend to assign ip addresses fairly randomly so you'll need

to get one of the applications from dyndns that will run in your system
tray, detect when your ip address changes and notify dyndns automatically.

Alternatively... if you are using a dialup connection - go with Demon
Internet. They assign an adress to your account. I've been using the same
IP address for over 2 years now.

I'm assuming that Comfort is going to dial up either at specific times or
when there is a security breach - is that so? Otherwise unless you have a
permanent connection it'll be very difficult (if not impossible) to do
what you want..

Oooh there is one other option.. Each time you dial up you could get the
ip address assigned to you and then store it in a text file and transfer
the file to your web site... then when you wanted to talk to Comfort you
could examine the file remotely and connect directly to that ip address...

Hope this helps..

Hi Andy,
Thanks for answering that question for me.
One thing we need to resolve is how to setup a static IP rather than the
existing dynamic address(which changes each time you log on) for enabling
people to use the same IP address each time? Would you know how to do
that?

Thanks
