"Try cutting the diodes off the ends of the CT100 so that it is
bi-directional."

Are they seriously saying signals only flow one way down CT100? Are they
saying that they didn't have two-way comms with your old analogue boxes? I
know for a fact that they did because a friend of mine develops software
for
NTL and we have done a lot of playing with cable boxes (including hacking
them and how to defeat the hacks) and there is definitely two way
communication with the old boxes.

Just tell them that the CT100 cabling is RG6 ... the engineers don't give a
damn. I had an install booked for a cablemodem about a year ago, when they
arrived they said that they had come to do the cable TV installation only
and that they didn't have anyone who was qualified or who had been on the
training for cablemodem installation. Not willing to wait another week for
someone to fit me a cablemodem point I simply asked them to run me a 2nd
cable TV cable up into our spare bedroom (the server room) so that we could
take the cable TV box up there if we wanted. This they duly did and we were
running the calemodem from that perfectly up until I moved out.

Sorted!

Phil

NTL have now come back to me to say that CT100 is unidirectional and with
NTL's digital cable service they need to send data back up the cable as
opposed to, say Sky (satellite) digital which uses the telephone for any
feedback. As RG6 is bi-directional it is the recommended cable. If only I
knew when I installed CT100!!!
