Mark,

Fancy doing the same in the UK with an "always on" 1Mb+ connection? It is technically possible, and providing things continue to progress they way they have in the past couple of weeks, we should be able to offer a service in selected parts of the UK some time next year for fixed and mobile users. Without going into too much detail, it uses the same technology as 802.11 wireless LANs but with a high powered antenna in a 2km diameter cell. And because it runs at 2.4GHz (microwave), you can use the antenna to cook your food too!

Tim.
