I can't comment on the Wiring book, but Smart Homes for Dummies is a bit=20
lame. There's nothing in there that you wouldn't learn by lurking on
this=20
list for a while.

I wouldn't miss reading it though, as it might give you some ideas. I=20
suggest you get your local library to get a copy in instead of buying it=20
however.
