Re: MP3 Whole House Audio

I am playing with this at the moment and have a reasonable reliable
system working at the moment.

A PC is in the loft with a large 20gig drive in it and is connected
via the soundcard to the whole house audio system. I have installed
a TV out graphics card with a modulator so it plugs into the whole
house TV distribution amp. I also installed one of those IR keyboards
so it can be controlled from any room (via the IR distribution system).
Most of the time it is controlled by my pronto as I have programmed
various codes that are needed to make it work. The same PC has my
CPU-XA home controller attached so I can use other events to trigger
the jukebox via Commander-X (like my X10 alarm clock).

As for software I am still playing with that. Currently I use WinAmp
as the mp3 player and AudioCatalyst as the encoder. I have been looking
at various playlist frontends for WinAmp, so far my favourite is MP3
Manager. The main issue I have is that I am using a fairly low res
(800x600) on a TV so it has to be displayed in a large font. Lots of
the programs don't allow you to change the font size, and it's
unreadable from a distance on a TV. If you don't plan on using a TV
as the display you will probably find a better frontend.

Things I would like to do are, try and get multiple sound cards
working for audio zones. LCD touchpads that display track details etc...

Best of luck!

Phil
