I think that a lot of 70's houses will have had fairly major rewiring or
additional wiring anyway. The bungalow we lived in that was wired like
that only had single sockets not doubles, and very few of those.
1 per bedroom, 2 in the lounge, dining room and kitchen !!!

I wouldnt even consider single sockets these days  :-))
