Don't even think about using an ignition-based system.
If you're relying on being able to turn on a gas appliciance without being
there, then you need to think in terms of a pilot light.
Whether you could sensibly fit this to your existing fire is another
story...

Subject: [ukha_d] The Beauty of Gas ?
Hi All
I have a gas fire in my front room (one of those ones which is meant to
look like a real fire)...anyone know of an X10 (ideally) device which
will let me automatically turn it on/off (will need to include some
kind of gas flow on/off as well as a spark to light the gas when
switched on....)
Cheers
James
