To my mind, the advantage is that it _does_ require contact- so it's not
'grabbable', much more resistant to jamming or interference, and doesn't
either miss the fact that you've entered a room or think you entered
another room... need I go on.  I'd agree, contactless is nice (microchip
now do RFID devices, and also sell a contactless demonstrator, ISTR price
is about $999 for the kit- see www.microchip.com)
