I'm still in the design phase of my move to automated heaven but I was
considering running a cm12u with heyu/xtend on a linux box. I have lying
around some unix APIs for ibuttons that I got from a salesman at
DallasSemi.

The plan was to control the home via the unix box using ibuttons. This
info
such as macros, particular setups according to time etc could be stored in
the
button. And of course different buttons for different users. I'm not sure
that you can undertake all control from the button as there is no real way
to
specify which setup you want or any special conditions but for a quick and
easy
setup it could be the way forward.

Umm... not sure I understand what a PIC microcontroller is. Could you
explain?
