I have the linksys ap and the orinoco card as recommended by Mark, the
combination works really well with the ap just dumped on a desk in my
study...in fact right now it has a keyboard laying across the antenna
;)...I
get access all over the house and garden no problems and could probably go
further if I optomised the placement.

Avoid the linksys card it stinks! I have one but it is really only any good
in the same room as the ap.

I have the dual pcmia sleeve (has its own battery so extends the time you
can be completely wireless) so hopefully I will get a 5gb tosh hard drive
card for xmas ;)
