Well, I may have had plans for what I was going to do over the last 10
days or so, but apparently my appendix had its own ideas. That sucker
won't give me any more trouble now!


Anyway, it turns out my IR problem was not with the kat5 unit in
question directly - in making my changes, I had knocked loose a power
connection to a kat5 unit that sat physically next to the component one.
Somehow, the dodgy power it was getting was causing the IR issue.
Plugging everything in properly has made it all work correctly again.

Sorry for the false alarm and thanks for the help.
