I suppose you want me to give a "Firm" answer on this question

If you already have a means of controlling your source equipment (or have
no
need to control the source equipment) then you dont need to fit the
upgrade.

Not a "MUST" as the switcher can also be controlled via commands
from the serial
port or optional web interface so HomeVision could control it as could any
other Home Automation package but IR will be the most convienient way of
controlling it.

The upgrade also adds SCART control so particularly whan used with the
switcher,
selecting a source from the switcher would allow KAT5 to grab the AV input
on
the TV and save a button press on another remote control.
