Hi Will,

Audio isnt as fussy as Video.

All you need is a cheap transformer. Maplin sell "Ground Loop
Breakers"
which have 2 transformers in them and have a pair of phono leads from each
end. Plug 1 end into the source and plug the other end into a CAT5 lead.
Wire one pair to a phone socket for each channel but keep the grounds
separate.

you need to do this at each end to do it properly but there will be some
loss and it may not be perfect. It also wont travel as far a a set of
KAT5's
would.

HTH

Keith

Subject: [KAT5] Any chance of a cheap & cheerful Line Balance box?

Hello all,

I'm just about to buy my first house, and I dare say like everyone
else on here I'm going to install a load of Cat5.

However, I'm am a heathen.

I care not one jot about loss-less audio from my CD player to my shed.
What I care about is making my mortgage payments each month! :)

So Keith, how about a cheap passive box for infidels like myself?

>From what I can gather the only real problem with Cat5 is it's
100Ohm impedance, and vid signals need 75ohm. Is this the case
for Audio as well?
As far as I can remember this should be a fairly simple thing to
build, I'll have to dig the physics books out.

Would it be a case of "It's really not worth the bother" for
these?
If so, any pointers on doing it myself would be much appreciated. ;)

Time to break out the bread-board and order some stuff from maplins.

Cheers,

Will
