Most here know I have been battling cancer for a couple of years and =
have been in remission for some time. Well, I've been feeling sick for =
a while and my GP hasn't been able to help so I revisited my pulmonary =
specialist about a week and a half ago. He ordered some tests and the =
results were bad. After more tests my oncologist gave me the prognosis. =
The cancer has come back with malignant pulmonary effusion and =
unfortunately, it's incurable. I have somewhere between a few months =
and a year or so to live. There's a slim chance I may be around two or =
three years but without a miracle survival isn't possible. Medicine =
offers only palliative treatment, aimed at improving the quality of =
life.

I wasn't going to say anything in Usenet because of certain =
individuals from the "other" newsgroup. However, a fair number of =
participants and many more lurkers here are clients and friends so I =
decided to post. For the moment I'm not feeling particularly ill, just =
short of breath and tired all the time. Friends who've heard the news =
are shocked since only recently I've been dancing, throwing parties and =
generally carrying on as usual. Soon I'll undergo surgery and start =
chemo. That will change everything.

I'd like to thank those who've shared technical knowledge and business =
ideas with me, as well as those who have been so encouraging during my =
first bout with cancer. I'll try to stay active in the newsgroup in the =
coming months as much as my health allows. I'm also continuing my =
online business as usual, although I've hired help to keep things =
running while I'm dealing with my illness.

I'd really appreciate if any who believe in prayer would lift my wife =
and family. This is much harder on them than me. Thanks.

  Regards,
  Robert L Bass

I'm very sorry to hear this news and wish you and your family the =
very best. Don't give up hope. New things and clinical trials are =
happening every day. I know that the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in =
Houston has some amazing programs and may be worth looking in to.
