My money's on the five year old. Of course, you'll probably see a repeat
everytime (s)he needs $10 or wants another ice cream fix. ;)

If you have a laptop, you might be able to find it using a $5 RF receiver
(Mouser 509-RCR-315-RP) and the circuit I show at...

Mouser has no minimum and will ship Priority Mail. You should have it in 3
days or so.

Don't tune the receiver but leave it at 315MHz. You'll still be able to hear
the 310MHz signal but will need to be fairly close to do so. It will sound
similar to the end of the http://www.mbx-usa.com/fan.wav file. Using a
shorter antenna will reduce the range if you need to zero in on the target.
