So it sounds like you have two sources?  You could cut the wire and
install in wall volume controls and run new wire to a central location
in the basement or family room.  Some how you have to connect the
speakers to a speaker selector and connect your audio source. Does that
make sense.. check some of the products on:

source in the basement or other room you could also install an ir
repeater for the remote!
