Substituting Fire Alarm Beam Detectors?
Customer performed construction work without notifying us, now the System S=
ensor 6424 beam detectors are mostly inaccessible due to wall partitions, H=
VAC, plumbing and electrical. This building has 25 foot ceilings with expos=
ed joists and the beam detectors are located between the joists at the top =
of the ceiling. 6 of the beam detectors are now randomly reporting trouble,=
likely due to dust on the faceplates as a result of the construction.=20
What is the best course of action here? The building has sprinklers, what a=
dvantage do the beams provide that cannot be duplicated by the addition of =
more smoke detectors? What is the responsibility of the customer/architect/=
contractor to ensure that fire alarm devices can be accessed and serviced?
