According to them the type of thermostat you want does indeed exist, can
be found fairly inexpensively and work they very well.  The set point
issue depends on your thermostat and how well the heat/ac maintains an
even temp - see manufacturer's recommendations.

That's what you get for not living in an area with nicely defined seasons.

Here in Michigan we four distinct ones:

Almost Winter
Winter
Still Winter
Road Construction
