I think the new British law enacted on Jan 1st 2011 to prevent tea break
injuries documented in the link below is possibly going a little too far.
The new law requires all business's with 5 or more employees to enforce the
use of sipping lids on tea and coffee cups to prevent scalding injuries
whilst
dunking biscuits (cookies) in hot beverages, apparently almost a third of
working adults in the UK have suffered such an injury, in addition employers
must also provide safety glasses to all their employees to prevent the 3% of
workers who suffer eye injury after accidentally poking themselves in the
eye
with a biscuit(cookie).
Airlines will also have to comply when they enter British airspace, although
for some reason restaurants & cafes are currently exempt from the law.

A second part to the law regarding the banning of open hot beverage
containers in households with children under the age of 14 is due to be
enacted later this year, this will require the use of sipping lids on all
tea & coffee mugs in such households, its unclear at the moment exactly how
this law will be enforced
