Why is the resistor put at the end-of-line. Is it convention? Is it ease
of testing? Does it make the system more secure? Why can't the resistor be
included on the system board at the start-of-line?

Best,
Christopher

The end of line resistor is there to secure the system.

with out end of line there is 2 condition that can monitored by a system
open or close circuit..

with a resistor there is 4 condition. first , open, second short, third
closed with proper resistance value and forth closed with wrong resistor
value..

As you can see adding only one resistor can help monitor the line in a much
better way, so helping the security of the system..

And one last note: the END of line resistor have to placed at the END of the
line ;-))
