If someone is going to bless you with CAD drawings for a given project ask
them to port out a .dxf file.  .dxf stands for Drawing eXchange File.  You
may need to play with it a bit to meet your needs.
I personally request a .dxf in AutoCAD v.11 or v.12.  It seems to work
better with my software.
