I've done POS interface with AVE stuff. Buy it direct from the
Houston manufacturer. It basically has an input for video and a
serial port for the cash register data, then it overlays the output of
serial data onto the camera video with it's own timestamp (you can
turn it off). Most systems you can just put a tap between the receipt
printer and POS machine. Other systems have a serial port built-in,
and you can grab data directly from the register.
If the customers wants more than just plain overlay data, you need a
DVR that can handle POS data because there is a tap on the unit that
feeds into a serial port on the DVR. This makes the data available in
a SQL database that is easily searchable by transaction, item, time,
cashier, etc... For multiple POS machines a good PC based DVR system
is needed for adding extra serial ports and running the database.
