Nick,

I'm afraid you'll need a more powerful Usenet reader. Outlook Express
and Thunderbird sorta 'threw' Usenet functionality in. A dedicated
reader that has advanced filtering capabilities is the best way.

You can get X-News for free here:

I just tried it and it worked like a charm. There is no need to
filter individuals, what you want is to filter cross posted messages.

During the setup wizard you'll land on a setup screen with a bunch of
tabs on top.

Select the "misc" tab
In the "Newsgroups Options" area look for "kill articles cross posted
to more than" and use the arrow keys to select "1".

After newgroups are retrieved and you subscribe to ASA you'll be
pleasantly surprised at which messages are there (and really happy
about which one aren't)

Besides the advanced filtering capabilities, I think you'll like all
the other stuff you can do with X-News.

There are other News agents that will do the same thing, like Forte
Agent - but not free.
