Most 110/9V smoke detectors give a short chirp to indicate a low (or missing) 9-Volt backup battery.  However, the ones I've used
all give a single chirp and it usually repeats every few minutes.  Some repeat more frequently.

BTW, most professional installers prefer photoelectric smokes for residential alarms as they respond faster to the most common type
of fire in a residential environment.  Ionization smokes may tend to false more often as well.
