I don't think the Jews took a big part of anyone's territory, except Moses
maybe. And he didn't do that directly, his next in line did. You know Moses
got fouled up on that 'talk to the rock' versus the 'smack the rock' thing.
The Jews weren't the first in Palestine if you take the Biblical account
literally. But by that account the Jews claim God gave the land to them, but
only after a good horror show massacre of the locals. I have not seen that
'signed by God' land deed yet so I can't really tell what God gave the Jews,
or can anyone else. You know things did not go well for the Jews once they
settled in that part of the world. The Babylonians et al took them captive
just like the Egyptians did, and the twelve tribes went to one. What ever
happened bad up until then was nothing because the Jews really lost out when
the Romans did a number on the old home town of Jerusalem, and the Temple
became a Holy Roman pork fest! After the Temple became a chariot parking
lot, by courtesy of the Romans combat engineers, an almost magical
transformation of the Jewish religion occured where Temple worship went sort
of on the run (okay, okay "the diaspora"). And that is still pretty much the
religion of the Jews today (until maybe someone builds a Temple again ).
If you talk about recent history and the formation of the "modern Jewish
State" the Jews didn't really "take over" anything there either. After the
fall of the Ottoman Empire at the end of WWI the British gained control of
the area known as Palestine. The British hated the Jews about as much as
anyone at the time and it made the Balfour Declaration to support the notion
of a Jewish homeland. (It might be more likely that the Brits just didn't
want any more Jews in Britain.) Unfortunately for the Brits, the Jews turned
out to be not only great rebels, they turned out to be pretty good
terrorists too. It was real sport to see the bodies of Brits blasted out of
the St. David's. By 1947 the Brits had had enough (after making promises to
the local Arabs who helped Britain in WW I&II to control what was the
massive influx of Jews to the region, the Brits broke that promise.) The
Brits said "screw this, we're outa here" and "turned over" the problem to
the UN. Well for once Jewish hatred helped the Jews get what they wanted, a
homeland. The UN split the land up into two, one Jew and one Arab. The Arabs
got the short end of the deal from then on. Many Arabs fled the from the
Jews as the Jews entered the new Jewish area still occpied by the Arabs, and
many Arabs never came back or were allowed back. Today the Jews can't let
the Arabs come back because the Jews would become a minority in their own
country if they did. The Arabs that decided to get their land back by force
only got their asses kicked and lost more land. This of course has been an
unsolved problem since 1947. To say the Jews "took over" or "took" anything
from the Arabs is not accurate and is just an attempt to over simplify an
otherwise complicated problem. When I see what many call the Holy Land I
only see waste land. I am afraid if any Jews and Arabs ended up together in
West Texas they'd think it was new Jerusalem and start fighting there too.
Why these two groups of essentially the same people ethnically would waste
time fighting over "the Holy Land" is beyond me. Figuring out how to get
them to stop fighting and live together in peace is beyond me as well (and
up until now everyone else too I suppose).
